U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center - Environmental Laboratory (ERDC-EL)
Service or Branch:
Biosciences, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Geosciences, Mathematics, Physics
The Environmental Laboratory supports the research missions of U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC), other Corps activities, the Army, DoD, and other agencies by conceiving, planning, managing, conducting, and coordinating research and development (R&D) in, and related to, environmental science and engineering. Through a balanced program of R&D and demonstration, the Environmental Laboratory advances the Army's knowledge and ability to use advanced technology to address a wide range of environmental engineering and scientific challenges.
Our researchers in the Environmental Laboratory conduct research in:
Ecosystem Science and Technology
Ecological Modeling and Forecasting
Risk and Decision Science
Environmentally Sustainable Material
We partner with other government agencies, academia and industry to solve complex environmental systems problems. We provide solutions to environmental systems challenges worldwide, including
Analytical chemistry, aquatic and wetland ecosystems, chemistry, cleanup and remediation, dredging and dredged material management, fate and effects, geospatial analysis and mapping, hazardous/toxic waste assessment and cleanup, invasive and threatened/endangered species, molecular ecology, modeling and ecosystem restoration, risk assessment, sensing and monitoring, environmental stewardship and recreation, unexploded ordnance detection and ordnance management, and wetlands technology.
Vicksburg is a diverse business and tourism destination with a prosperous economy. Vicksburg boasts rich southern history, breathtaking architecture, terrific arts and culture, legendary shopping and dining. Where else can you cruise the mighty Mississippi River, enjoy riverboat gaming, tour some of the state's grandest historic homes, museums and explore a National Military Park. Whether it is nature viewing, fishing, hunting, golfing or picnicking you want, Vicksburg offers it all. Warren County, in which Vicksburg is located, lies between three rivers, the Mississippi, the Big Black and the Yazoo. The Southern hardwood bottomlands, and surrounding lakes and woodlands combined with Vicksburg’s position on the Mississippi River Flyway allow for some of the nation’s best birding opportunities including the majesty of bald eagles in flight at Eagle Lake.
