A typical Air Force installation consists of operational facilities (e.g., hangars, flightlines), training facilities, support facilities, housing, and base-wide infrastructure (e.g., utility systems). It also includes natural infrastructure assets, such as air, space, land, and water resources. Installation engineering squadrons maintain the installation by the planning, acquiring, building, sustaining, managing, operating, and divesting of both natural and manmade infrastructure. These squadrons ensure installations have the natural infrastructure to support current and future missions and to maintain compliance with environmental requirements. To complete their mission, installation engineering squadrons at Air Force bases encompass a variety of occupational areas including engineering disciplines, architects, realty specialists, housing managers, environmental professionals, financial managers, biologists, firefighters, electricians, carpenters, painters, and more.

The 94 Mission Support Group (MSG) Engineering Squadron plans, builds, maintains, and repairs base facilities and utility systems to support the 94th Airlift Wing mission. They support world-wide deployments in support of expeditionary wartime and peacetime air base operability requirements. They provide fire protection, environmental management, explosive ordnance disposal, and military family housing services. They prepare for and respond to peacetime natural and man-made disasters.

The 94th Airlift Wing, located at Dobbins Air Reserve Base, is organized into a headquarters element, three groups, and a medical element containing 11 squadrons and four flights (1,800 personnel). They have three missions: train C-130H aircrews for the U.S. Air Force - active duty, guard, and reserve components; maintain combat ready units to deploy on short notice to support contingencies anywhere in the world; and serve as the host organization for supporting all agencies and tenants at Dobbins Air Reserve Base.
