673rd Engineering Squadron (673CES)
Service or Branch:
Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, AK
Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering
A typical Air Force installation consists of operational facilities (e.g., hangars, flightlines), training facilities, support facilities, housing, and base-wide infrastructure (e.g., utility systems). It also includes natural infrastructure assets, such as air, space, land, and water resources. Installation engineering squadrons maintain the installation by the planning, acquiring, building, sustaining, managing, operating, and divesting of both natural and manmade infrastructure. These squadrons ensure installations have the natural infrastructure to support current and future missions and to maintain compliance with environmental requirements. To complete their mission, installation engineering squadrons at Air Force bases encompass a variety of occupational areas including engineering disciplines, architects, realty specialists, housing managers, environmental professionals, financial managers, biologists, firefighters, electricians, carpenters, painters, and more.
The 673d Engineering Squadron is part of the 673d Air Base Wing (ABW) headquartered at Joint Base Elemendorf-Richardson (JBER) near Anchorage, Alaska. The 673d ABW comprises over 5,000 joint military and civilian personnel, supporting America's Arctic Warriors and their families. The Wing supports and enables three Air Force total-force wings, one Army Brigade, and 55 other tenant units to include US Alaskan Command, Eleventh Air Force, the Alaskan North American Aerospace Defense Command Region, and the 3rd Wing, as well as US Army Alaska, the 4/25 Brigade Combat Team (Airborne), and all of their subordinate units. In addition, the wing provides medical care to over 35,000 joint service members, dependents, Veterans Administration patients and retirees throughout Alaska.
The 673d ABW maintains $12.4B in infrastructure encompassing more than 73,000 acres, ensuring Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson remains America's premier strategic power projection platform. The 673d Engineer Group, responsible for supporting the 673d ABW in maintaining that infrastructure, is a highly motivated, multi-disciplinary professional workforce comprised of the 673d Civil Engineer Squadron and the 673d Engineer Squadron. Over 900 military and civilian members maintain an $11.4B infrastructure and provide superb real property maintenance and construction, support utilities, fire and disaster protection, explosive ordnance disposal, housing services, planning, and environmental management for over 84,000 acres of property while supporting a total JBER population of 35,000, to include over 15,000 joint warriors.
