The Defense Threat Reduction Agency is a combat support agency of the U.S. Department of Defense. Founded in 1998, the agency headquarters is located in Fort Belvoir, Virginia. DTRA employs 2,000 men and women, both military and civilian at more than 14 locations around the world. The threat of weapons of mass destruction is real and growing. Weapons of mass destruction can be chemical, biological, nuclear, radiological or high-explosive. DTRA is the go-to part of the Department of Defense to counter these weapons. Vision: Our agency's vision is to make the world safer by reducing the threat of weapons of mass destruction. Mission: The Defense Threat Reduction Agency safeguards America and its allies from Weapons of Mass Destruction (chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and high explosives) by providing capabilities to reduce, eliminate, and counter the threat, and mitigate its effects. The Defense Threat Reduction Agency is located in the Headquarters Complex at Fort Belvoir, Virginia, just outside of Washington, D.C., with additional offices in Alexandria, Virginia.
